Despite clear demonstrations of the potential benefits of managing terrestrial and marine resources to produce a sustainable mix of environmental and human co-benefits, many of the most promising models remain under-funded or largely aspirational. In this issue, we summarize specific challenges and opportunities related to the mobilization of private capital in conservation.

The LBIN asks how much we spend on biodiversity conservation today, and how much more we need to spend if we are to sustainably manage biodiversity for the long term. It outlines how to close the biodiversity finance gap and how public and private sources of capital can collaborate to preserve biodiversity.
